High Carbon Steel Katana

The core of the catalogue. High carbon steel with a full-length bo-hi fuller running from the habaki to the kissaki.

The fuller removes material along the blade's flat, lowering weight without a proportional loss of stiffness — these blades weigh about 950 g bare. It also gives the blade its characteristic tone when moved.

All are 103 cm overall with a 72 cm blade, 3.2 cm wide and 0.75 cm thick, are supplied unsharpened for display and collection, and use a one-piece full tang secured with mekugi pins. Fittings are cast zinc alloy with a brass habaki; saya are lacquered hardwood.

This collection uses workshop-declared high-carbon steel with a full-length bo-hi. Dimensions and weight are declared on each individual listing, and every sword is supplied unsharpened for adult collection and display only.

This is the simplest construction in the current catalog and offers the widest choice of ito, tsuba and saya finishes. Prime Katana does not infer an exact alloy number where the workshop record says only “high carbon steel.”

When to choose another line

Choose blackened finish for a dark surface, patterned steel for visible grain, or T10 clay-tempered for a workshop-declared differential hardening process. All remain unsharpened adult collector products; compare the individual listings for model-specific fittings.

What steel grade is used?

The workshop record states high-carbon steel. Prime Katana does not invent an alloy number such as 1045 or 1060 when it is not supplied and verified.

What is the bo-hi for?

A bo-hi is the groove along the blade. It removes material and contributes to the declared bare weight; it is not presented as proof of any performance value.

Are these katana unsharpened?

Yes. Every product currently offered is supplied unsharpened for adult collection and display only. Tang construction is declared on each individual listing.
