Description
The most decorated piece in this batch. The saya is hand-painted rather than printed: gold chrysanthemum and maple leaves laid over a dark ground flecked with orange-red, each one worked individually so no two sayas match exactly.
The blade is workshop-smelted steel in sanmai — a three-layer lamination — nine-fold forged and oil-quenched, as declared by the workshop. It finishes in a warm brown tone with the folding grain left visible across the surface, rather than the usual bright mirror.
The blade tapers from 3.17 cm at the base to 2.6 cm at the tip, and from 0.75 cm to 0.51 cm in thickness, with a ko-maru kissaki and 2 cm of curvature. Fittings are carved white copper as declared by the workshop; pearl rayskin over local hardwood sits under black ito.
