Description

A matched pair — a katana and a short sword — sharing one set of fittings and one saya treatment, sold together.

Both blades are 5160 spring steel, mirror-polished through a twenty-stage hand water-polish with a Japanese finishing polish, as declared by the workshop. A pronounced wave runs the length of each blade.

The sayas are carved cypress, not plain lacquer: swirling wave and cloud relief cut into the wood, then lacquered black and picked out in orange-red so the carving reads at a distance. Brass fittings with a blackened, gold-overlaid pierced tsuba; black ito over white same; black sageo shot with red.

Wipe the blade with a light machine oil after handling. Store horizontally, edge up, away from humidity.
